about
***All proceeds to charity*** Suggested donation £2
This song is meant to inspire questioning and compassion, as well as get us angry. What is happening to the people affected by the refugee crisis people could have been stopped, if we privileged western folk stopped buying into the false idea that there is not enough wealth to help. All the proceeds from sales of this song and performance rights will be donated to Care4Calais as a small contribution to the amazing work they are doing in France helping refugees. It's only a drop in the ocean, but trying not to let this issue slip out of our minds.
This time last year Joe was over in Dunkirk refugee camp volunteering in the children's centre. He and a friend brought over a circus kit (kindly provided by a busk from Streetwise Samba Band!) and had a load of craic with some wee kids who didn't have much else.
He describes it as a powerfully meaningful experience; very rewarding, but also maddening to see what is happening to these people fleeing wars (usually started by our western governments) and hardship. The bravery and humanity present in everyones stories he encountered inspired the creation of this song. The price of this single is a quid, however if anyone feels they could afford to donate more to those with nothing please do.
See care4calais.org for some of the important work they are doing.
Thanks, Luck and Love

lyrics
I never did see a map of the route
After hundreds of miles I arrived on foot
At the sea so clear and blue by day
I never Imagined the horrors that lay
For all of us there who had no choice
Strangled drowned and deprived of a voice
In the blackness, the hellish void
Would you leave your home
And all that you know?
Just to throw yourself on the mercy of the road?
Throw yourself on the mercy of the road
An then to arrive and be safe at last
In Europe now, we'd outrun our past
But no, we've been locked up en masse
Someone's been telling these people some lies
Or not telling them just how badly ruined
All of our lives have become
And how each one of them needs to open up their eyes
Not ignore the peoples cries
Chorus
Repeating mistakes of the past is unwise
Second class citizens, ended lives
Avoiding western bombs from the sky
Trade agreements from on high
The flame of their hope is still burning so strong
Against the odds they're travelling on
Would you leave your home and all that you know
To throw yourself on the road unknown?
Would you leave the comfort of your family and friends
Just to start on a journey with no end?
